AeroPress Original Coffee Maker Description
The AeroPress is a compact, manual brewer that makes a genuinely clean cup almost anywhere – no mains power, no fuss, and it’s dishwasher safe when you’re done.
Understand the Choice. We stock the AeroPress because it does something a cafetière and a filter machine can’t: a paper filter gives a noticeably cleaner cup than a French press’s metal mesh, and the plunge action produces a stronger, more concentrated brew than a standard filter, at a fraction of the price and none of the plumbing of a machine. It brews two ways – fast, in about a minute, or slower and infused, more like a cafetière – so the same brewer covers both a rushed morning and a relaxed one.
Pour, stir, wait, plunge – the spent grounds compress into a solid puck that pops straight out for cleaning, no scooping required. It comes with a pre-measured scoop, so you don’t need scales to get a good result, though we suggest using a 1:16 ratio to create a beautifully balanced cup. It pairs naturally with any burr grinder capable of a medium or fine, consistent grind – including our own Hario Mini Mill or an electric grinder from the Wilfa range.
Dishwasher safe, and simple enough that there’s very little to go wrong – no motor, no seals to perish, nothing electronic.
A brewer that goes anywhere, and makes a proper cup wherever it lands.
AeroPress FAQs
What is an AeroPress?
A compact, manual coffee brewer that combines immersion with air pressure from a plunger to push water through coffee grounds and a paper filter. It needs no electricity, produces a stronger, cleaner cup than a standard filter brew, and the Go or Original size is small enough to pack for travel or camping.
How does an AeroPress work?
Coffee and hot water go into the brewing chamber, are stirred, and left briefly to steep. Pressing the plunger down forces the brewed coffee through a paper filter into your cup, leaving the spent grounds compressed into a solid puck that pops out for easy cleaning. It can also be brewed the other way up (“inverted”) for a slower, more infused result, closer to a cafetière.
What’s the difference between the AeroPress Original and the AeroPress Go?
Same brewer, same brewing method – the Go is the compact travel edition, with a travel mug, sized-down for packing into a bag. Most Go buyers already own an Original at home and want a second, portable one for camping or festivals.
What’s the difference between the AeroPress Original and the AeroPress Clear Colours?
Same brewing method again – the Clear Colours are made from shatterproof, see-through Tritan™ instead of the Original’s polypropylene, so you can watch the brew happen, and it comes in seven colours from fully transparent through to solid black. It costs more than the Original as a result of the material, not because it brews any differently.
What’s the difference between the AeroPress Original and the AeroPress XL?
Same brewing method, larger capacity – the XL uses a shatterproof 20oz Tritan™ carafe, roughly double the capacity of the standard AeroPress, so you can brew more in one go. Best suited to sharing; for solo brewing, the Original, Clear Colours or the Go are the better fit.
