Uganda Bukonzo FW Fairtrade Speciality Coffee

An intense, punchy single origin with a dominant dark chocolate character. Fair Trade certified, organically grown, and the product of a community that chose quality over yield – switching from robusta to Arabica on some of Uganda’s finest soil.

A community that bet on quality

The region where this coffee grows had long been associated with robusta – a higher-yielding crop, but one with less flavour complexity. When the community recognised the exceptional quality of their soil, they made a deliberate shift towards Arabica. It was a smaller harvest, but a far more valuable one. The result is a coffee that speaks for itself in the cup.

This is a Fair Trade certified, organic coffee, which means the cooperative has invested in formal accreditation – a meaningful commitment that carries real cost. It’s also worth noting that the community benefits directly from every purchase, as the cooperative structure ensures income flows back to the people who grow it.

  What it tastes like

Dark chocolate is the defining note – intense, deep, and unmistakable. Cara describes it as a 70% chocolate experience: rich, punchy, and impactful with undertones of citrus, caramel, light berries and tropical candy. though in practice the dark chocolate tends to dominate. It works well with oat or cows milk and adding these softens the intensity without losing the character.

How to brew it

This coffee is bold enough to hold its own as an espresso base, making it ideal for flat whites, lattes, and any milk-based drink. It also works well brewed in a cafetière or a Moka Pot, where the density of the brew suits the weight of the coffee.
